Odisha Part 3 - Konark : The Surya Temple, through my eyes

Many years back, when I visited the National Museum in Delhi, one of the images that I was most impressed by, was the Surya from Konark. I remember being rooted to the ground as I stood in front of the sculpture, admiring every detail, simply unable to walk away. There are various ideas of where the sculpture was placed in the temple, but wherever it was placed, there is no question that it would have drawn all eyes. I remember wondering back then, if this single sculpture was so impressive, how much more impressive the temple would have been! The first thing that struck me about the Konark temple during my first visit, was its size. I have seen huge ancient temples before – the Brihadeeshwara temple and the Kandariya Mahadev temple, to name just two. However, Konark was something else. Snails are interesting........

Snails are interesting creatures... Did you know that they are herbivores? Well, last week, we were waiting for Samhith's school bus when we saw this one eating up a flower. We were curious about how long it would take, and photographed it..... It took less than 5 minutes for the small creature to finish it off!

Here is another one, on a branch, hanging on, and eating a tiny flower.....








It has been pouring here since the last couple of days, and Samhith is looking forward to seeing more snails. They are, after all, interesting, aren't they?????

    i had a garden at my grandma place but never watched snail eating flowers! thanks for the slide show and wonderful thought! yes indeed they are interesting!

    Wow! that's a wonderful slide you have created. Loved the same. But I like it in pictures because when I was in Kerala these creepy things were inside my house everyday had a tough time keeping them out

    @ Chitra.... UGH! can imagine what a nuisance they must have been... as you say, I can enjoy watching them since they are outside the garden, and incidentally, they are not even eating my plants :-))

    Snails are indeed very interesting creatures, and quite beautiful if we have that eye.

    I've never seen any snail eat anything, in my life! I can't believe myself.

We continued our Gokarna trip by visiting four other Shiva temples in the vicinity, all connected to the same story of Gokarna. Newasa - Encountering an unique form of Vishnu, and Sant Jnaneshwar

Review of Executive Lounges at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS)

During my recent trip to Uttarakhand , I was faced with a problem I had never encountered before. We were passing through Delhi, but we had hardly any time in the city. On earlier visits when I have had to change trains/flights at Delhi, I have always arrived in the morning and left again at night, visiting relatives in between. This time, I was arriving in the city at night, and leaving again early in the morning. There was hardly any time to visit people. I would only have a couple of hours with them before I’d have to leave again.
