Memory is unpredictable . One never really knows what we will remember and what we will forget. Which is why nostalgia arrives in unpredictable waves, highlighting something and skimming over others. Recently, I have found myself thinking of how memory works, as I was assailed by nostalgia over a trip to Varanasi, a city I prefer to think of, as Kashi. The nostalgia hit right as we landed at Varanasi airport. The last time I was here, it was 1988, I was 13 years old, the airport was brand new… regular flights hadn’t started yet (I think) … flights landed about once a week, and for the rest of the time, everything was open to those of us who lived in the airport quarters nearby. There were fields everywhere, vast expanses of green… I have vague memories of corn and sugarcane… and being overwhelmed by the vastness of the fields (this was the first time I was in such close proximity to them), and the warm hospitality of complete strangers who lived and worked amidst these fields. My in-laws were in Jaipur for a brief period, and that was where we began our summer vacation. While the house was in an area far from any places of interest, we found plenty of things to interest us.... especially birds, which offered lots of scope for trial and error with my brand new camera!! New camera...congrats on the new toy and wish you memorable moments with it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Santosh!!!
DeleteWoW!! Such wonderful captures with your new camera! The bird looks so happy to pose for you. :)Did Samhith take these shots or was it you? And which camera have you taken? I am myself thinking to buy one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Arti!! I have got myself a Nikon P 510.. huge zoom but not dslr... perfect fit for me since i dont think i can handle a dslr with samhith :D and no, he isnt allowed to handle my new toy yet :D though he cant wait to!!
Deletethese super zooms are a blessing in disguise for many who can't fiddle around too much with those lenses and dslr's. I too used one for more than a year before hitching on to a dslr!
DeleteOh yes, Santosh!!! it is certainly easier than lugging around a dslr.. esp with a kid to manage too!!! have been telling samhith that i will give him this one when i buy a dslr, but cant see that happening too soon :D
DeleteWhat a lovely shot, Anu! That trip with Club Mahindra to Corbett really transformed me into a bird lover too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Shivya! that corbett trip with Club Mahindra was an eye opener in so many ways!!! Wish we could all meet again soon!
