Odisha Part 3 - Konark : The Surya Temple, through my eyes

Many years back, when I visited the National Museum in Delhi, one of the images that I was most impressed by, was the Surya from Konark. I remember being rooted to the ground as I stood in front of the sculpture, admiring every detail, simply unable to walk away. There are various ideas of where the sculpture was placed in the temple, but wherever it was placed, there is no question that it would have drawn all eyes. I remember wondering back then, if this single sculpture was so impressive, how much more impressive the temple would have been! The first thing that struck me about the Konark temple during my first visit, was its size. I have seen huge ancient temples before – the Brihadeeshwara temple and the Kandariya Mahadev temple, to name just two. However, Konark was something else. White Throated Kingfisher

at Alibag..

We saw this kingfisher near Akshi Beach at Alibag, just as we were making our way back home....



It was quite far off to begin with, but as we continued to wait, it came closer and closer, and gave us better opportunities to take photographs!


These were three of the better shots I managed.... a front view, a back view and a bottom view! I enjoyed having my new camera with me for this!!

    I've seen a kingfisher only in Vijay mallya's products and services! They look gorgeous! It's nice to carry your camera everywhere so that we don't miss any beauties like this!

      Actually, Vaish, I do see kingfishers all the time near my house! This is the first time though that I have managed a decent shot, thanks to the new camera! and yes, I do carry my camera along most of the times!

    I loved the pictures. I have not sen a Kingfisher with such a nice beak. Incidentally would you disclose the kind of camera you bought recently. It has a splendid zoom.

      Thanks PNS! the camera i have is a Nikon P510.. its a bridge camera.. a digital camera with a huge 42X optical zoom.. its wonderful... works better for me right now than a dslr

We continued our Gokarna trip by visiting four other Shiva temples in the vicinity, all connected to the same story of Gokarna. The story of Gokarna mentions the Mahabaleshwara Lingam as the one brought from Kailas by Ravana, and kept at this place on the ground by Ganesha. Newasa - Encountering an unique form of Vishnu, and Sant Jnaneshwar

Review of Executive Lounges at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS)

During my recent trip to Uttarakhand , I was faced with a problem I had never encountered before. We were passing through Delhi, but we had hardly any time in the city. On earlier visits when I have had to change trains/flights at Delhi, I have always arrived in the morning and left again at night, visiting relatives in between. This time, I was arriving in the city at night, and leaving again early in the morning. There was hardly any time to visit people. I would only have a couple of hours with them before I’d have to leave again.
