The absence of ancient Hindu structures in Kashi is something I have always lamented about. The shrines are certainly ancient, and that is something that has always attracted me to the city. However, I miss the beauty of the ancient structures that we see at other sites. This feeling is intensified when I see marble and concrete and tiles in temples that once would have been beautifully adorned with evocative sculptures, and worn by the passage of time, touched by the hands of seekers who came before. This time , this desire to see some remnants of an ancient Hindu structure in Kashi came true when I managed to visit the Kardameshwar Temple. The Kardameshwar temple is not one of the main temples in the city. It is part of the temples on the Pancha Kroshi yatra, a pilgrimage which takes one on a circumambulatory tour of the whole city. at Alibag..

We saw this kingfisher near Akshi Beach at Alibag, just as we were making our way back home....
It was quite far off to begin with, but as we continued to wait, it came closer and closer, and gave us better opportunities to take photographs!
These were three of the better shots I managed.... a front view, a back view and a bottom view! I enjoyed having my new camera with me for this!!
It must be a joy to have a camera with a decent zoom!

DeleteI've seen a kingfisher only in Vijay mallya's products and services! They look gorgeous! It's nice to carry your camera everywhere so that we don't miss any beauties like this!
ReplyDeleteActually, Vaish, I do see kingfishers all the time near my house! This is the first time though that I have managed a decent shot, thanks to the new camera! and yes, I do carry my camera along most of the times!
