My quest for ancient temples often takes me to hidden corners of the country, often less visited by regular tourists. More often than not, my drivers are completely unaware of these temples, and we often get lost looking for them, despite the ease that Google Maps has provided. Kukkarahalli Kere, or Lake is located in the heart of Mysore, in the Mysore University Campus. This was our favourite spot to relax almost every evening that we spent in the city... and you can see why!
The Lake, spreading over about 150 acres, was created during the reign of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar (1794-1868) in 1864. While views like these were surely a great draw, what really attracted us to the lake were the many species of birds, even in peak summer! However, more of them later, in a separate post. For now, just feast your eyes on the view.........
